Summary: In the three years since Maria Morris found the farmer-boy-prince, the Followers have multiplied. As Wyndemere’s empire cracks and unrest rises, the Legatee orchestrates the Rebellion. Danger Has Not Disappeared…But Neither Has Hope.
Though the overthrow of the tyrannical regime is imminent, Maria’s role as the “woman who started it all” is not widely known. So why the foreboding of danger?  When James invites her to headquarters where Maria assumes a new role among The Followers, tragedy strikes. The enemies she had thought long gone are capable of far more than she imagined. Will she have the courage to stand for what she believes, no matter the cost? Will she have the strength to surrender her dreams when all seems lost and she can do nothing at all?

My Thoughts: This was the best book of the trilogy. The adventures were exciting and kept me turning pages all day (I read the entire book in one day). Maria’s stand for her faith and her cause was definitely the best part. I have always been thrilled by stories both true and fiction of those who risk everything for what they believe.
There was one scene that was confusing and I didn’t feel that it was explained enough; but overall a wonderful book. I’m very glad to have been introduced to the Destiny Trilogy.

My Favorite Quotes: “The best of men are men at best.”

Summary: On her quest to find the crown prince, Maria Morris faces an abundance of obstacles. Now a marked Christian, it will be difficult and dangerous for her to travel. The USF follows her every move. (as the vibrating chip in her arm irritatingly reminds her.) Yet knowing all of this, Maria puts her trust in God and, with the help of a few new friends, refuses to give up her mission. She must find the crown prince. The Destiny Of A Few depends on it.

Summary taken from Goodreads

My Thoughts: Another enjoyable book by Sarah Holman.

The story was very interesting and kept me going but I ran into a lot of typos again and one particular character says “like” and “You know” excessively. Though I understand the author was trying to show her slang and maybe portray her as annoying, it feels very forced.
Even so, the characters are believable and loveable, the situations exciting, and the message good. The story is a page turner, I didn’t want to put it down and I would have read it a lot quicker if I wasn’t in the middle of a conference.

My Favorite Quotes:

~”It’s an old word that means ‘the one to whom a legacy is bequeathed’. That is what James is – A Legatee,” her father explained.

~ The Destiny of a few is in your hands.

Summary: William Landor returns from a four year stay in England to a Boston full of contention. The people are split into to groups, the whigs (or rebels), and the tories, along with the British soldiers that are now quartered in the town.

William returns full of secrets, hiding in the shadows and his only goal is to gain his father’s favor. Being friends with one of the British soldiers but also with Dr. Joseph Warren, one of the leaders of the ‘rebels’, he goes out secretly at night protecting both sides. Finally his loyalties are questioned by his friends and he must decide which side he is on, and if he will tell his father the truth.

My Thoughts:  I love this book! Revolutionary war, double life, and a little romance are my absolute favorite story elements and this has all three.

I loved the characters, their development and interaction. I loved all of the advice that was given to William throughout the story, it was good advice I could follow in my own life.

I also enjoyed learning more about Dr. Joseph Warren, I knew a little bit, like the fact that he was one of the three riders the night of Lexington and Concord.

Overall, my favorite book by the author, and probably my new favorite historical fiction book.

My Favorite Quotes:
~Joseph never ceased to hold my admiration. I could never imagine my father or Edmond giving away one inch of space on one of their ships for someone in need.

~”William, my friend, you have to stop hiding in shame. I know that takes courage, but you must ask God to give you the courage you lack. You must stop looking to your father for validation and instead look to God.”

~That is why England and her colonies are on the brink of war: we are in a struggle for freedom. we are in this struggle so that all men can one day have freedom and be equal. So that one day, people like Selah will be judged by their character, not the fact that they are indentured. And those like Matthew will no longer be enslaved for the color of their skin.”

~”There is a light that can only be found on the other side of darkness, there is a peace that can only be found on the other side of struggle, there is a faith that can only be found on the other side of doubt, and there is a healing that can only be found on the other side of pain,”

My Summary: Aldithea lives contentedly with her family but her decision to serve at the king’s castle in the place of a friend turns her world upside down. Keep smiling even though things will be hard, is her father’s last instructions before she leaves for her journey.

She learns that all our feelings, even pain are from God and He is not angry with us for them, but that we must continue to look for the good in all situations.

My thoughts: This is the first book I have read by this author and I loved it. A wonderful story about trusting God and looking for the good in difficult times. it was both exciting and sweet. I loved getting to know Aldithea, following her through her joys, struggles, and her interactions with the other wonderful characters in this story.

I’m look forward to reading other books by this author.
