Summary: Captain Fortescue runs in the higher social class in England but he has a secret about his past that he keeps from his friends. Little does he know that the secret is much bigger then even he knew. Meanwhile Marjorie Douglas must leave home to help bring in money for her mother and sisters, she learns contentment in a run down town called Daisy Bank.

My Thoughts: I really enjoyed the story the mystery is intriguing and there’s a nice little romance. The author’s style has a lot of descriptions compared to dialogue but the description is interesting and moves the story forward.

Fun Facts: I didn’t know before reading this that Evelyn used to be a common boys name but has since become more prominently known as a girls name because of the association with Evelina. http://www.behindthename.com/name/evelyn

I also learned that the word Arcade means a covered passageway with arches along one or both sides. A covered walk with stores on one or both sides. All I’ve ever associated it with up to this point is the video games.

My Favorite Quote:
“It’s a wonder that anything will grow here,” she said.”Ay, it’s unlikely soil; but the Lord’s plants do thrive sometimes in that.”
“Yes,” said Marjorie, for she did not quite see what he meant.
“There was old Dan’el in Babylon, and Obadiah, him as lived in Jezebel’s time, and there was saints in Nero’s household. They had bad soil, all of ‘am, but they was faithful ‘trees of the Lord’s planting,’ that He might be glorified.”
